News have been going around and Christian music followers especially the younger generation who have been influenced for good by the music and songs either sung or written by then Hillsong United's forefront man Marty Sampson. Marty has not been on this year's Hillsong Live - A Beautiful Exchange album. He has been keeping a low profile since the album 'United We Stand' by Hillsong United. His last album with United was the 2008 release The I Heart Revolution: We're All in This Together (2008). He often leads worship at church and has continued his strong contributions for new Hillsong albums.
Marty has a style of music and vocals unique only to himself which is captivating and uplifting. Originally featuring in the Youth Alive albums of the late 1990s, he was one of original Hillsong United worship leaders. Guitar is his main instrument and he occasionally plays the piano.
Marty has been focusing on his family and household duties including training members within Hillsong Church. He was married in November 2006 to Michelle. They now have a son named Phoenix. Since his departure from United, he has kept working on his craft of songwriting. He also helps with the worship at Northern Beaches, a Hillsong extension service. Marty has also released a solo album entitled "Let Love Rule."

What has MARTY SAMPSON been DOING?
During mid-2010, Marty became involved in a music making project. These songs that are written are most likely secular seeing that Christian music written by Marty would be under Hillsong Publishing. Marty was part of the founding members to a music band known as 'The Jaguars Band' which would later have their band name re-named to 'The Red Bikes'.

I appreciate this post as I've been confused as to how Hillsong can't seem to find a use for one of the most talented worship leaders of the 2000's. Word of advice: if Hillsong can't find a use for you, I'm sure there are literally hundreds of churches around the world that could use you. Not a lot of people can say that.

I'm a Christian and for years I've been doing worship, leading our local church band to heights I believe God wants us to achieve. But all that changed when my pastor mistakedly called me a rebel, which ended all my ministry works in church. Unfair... but all I can do is is to pray to God and to forgive my pastor, who clearly is only human. So I was wondering... Could Marty be in the same situation? He clearly loves God, had been serving Him and the church many years as well. I know many worshippers have gone through the same thing as I have, and I hope all, for the Church's sake as a whole, would come to peace together. And truly be the Body of Christ. God bless!

I am a Hillsong Creative team member and I just want to highlight something really important...
From an outside perspective I can understand that the United albums and Hillsong albums and the people who sing and lead on them have reached a certain level of celebrity around the world, but within our church life, these amazing guys simply serve like anyone else.
They don't parade their position or act high and mighty... they simply serve at church like anyone else would. When it comes to big events that people outside the church see (albums, conference etc) there is a core team who is presented, yes, but these people make up only a tiny fraction of the hundreds who serve week in and week out in church.
You may also think that people like Marty and all the Hillsong singers are paid for what they do... again, they serve and volunteer as anyone else would.
So why hasn't Marty been leading in church/on albums etc? Because Hillsong church is also his home church, it's not a platform for fame, there's nothing wrong with him sitting out of leading worship in church so he can focus on spending time with his wife and son. In fact he still serves - just not in a prominent positions by his own choosing.
He's a normal guy with an awesome gift who has simply been willing and available for God to use... so don't idolise or look to him, instead look to God as your inspiration!

I would say that I found the ways of the Lord when I saw him singing ... The Lord has touched me so ... I feel the Lord's presence when they hear you sing ... I sure you take time for your family ... but I pray that you return singing because as I've been touched and reached by the Lord through their songs and ministry there are many people that need to be touched by the Lord through you pray that you will return to the Ministry Hillsong've been missing!

Your insight that Marty's decision to step away from the spotlight is a key insight. Thank you. However, I do not think the matter is as simple as you suggest, at least in regards to the global outreach of Hillsong Music. Perhaps for the lay people and staff at the home church, the music team members function and are perceived as interchangeable agents for God, which is fantastic. But at the very least, Hillsong tours in the U.S. (I can speak for that) use specific individuals, the core group, in both performance and advertising (just look at the tour posters you perhaps helped to create for evidence of that). These tours lead to increased sales in CD, DVD, and other merchandise. Using specific individuals also gives the consumer a concrete person to identify with and follow (see the facebook and twitter accounts/followers which some core group members use). I think it is safe to say that if HU showed up in Denver without JTH, JD, and JG, fans/worshippers would feel as though they were misled. So the interchangeability has not been communicated here in the U.S. and I think intentionally so. I think that is fine though.
Also, although singers might not get paid to sing on a live album, a consistent presence on tours, CDS, and DVDs, publishing rights, all increases the person's marketability to make money from music down the road. It's not a matter of right or wrong to me, it just is the way it is. So, here are my concluding thoughts to your post. 1. Because of the way Hillsong markets and distributes their worship music/events (which I love!), a consistent presence IS a platform for fame, no matter how hard you try to make it otherwise. 2. You concluded your post insinuating that those of us asking questions about Marty should not idolise or look to him. While that may be true of some, I do not think it is true of most of us. We just wanted to know why a person your church chose to promote and hype suddenly is not mentioned. I believe you answered that. Thanks!

Hey everyone blessings to all. Ive read every Post and I actually wrote on one of them. Now I follow Marty Sampson on twitter, and sometimes he doesn't say much on it, but he has his post in which he writes stuff and talks about video's and stuff. The post is on Tumblr.com MWSMPSN, and you will be connected as far of what he is doing. He recorded a album with his new band it which has not come out yet, The Red Bikes, and I had a conversation with his engineer for the recording James Rudder and ask him the same question as all of us have. Is Marty Sampson coming back to hillsong. I ask him this question on the Hillsong United Tour to NYC, in March....He said he doesn't think he will sing again with the group because he is dedicating time to his family. Now I know JD, is married, and I also know JAD is married too. As a fan of Marty and after listening to him on Aftermath the is a thing about his voice that connects you to God and I am everyday trying to find out when is his album coming out. All I could say if Marty, in which have written many songs for hillsong is alone on this project let's help him promote this Album some how. Let's do a rally or something so that God could bless him and that he could sale lot's and lot's of them. Now on the concert that I went to for Hillsong United in NYC. Marty Sampson was there, supporting his mates, but never sang, because he was in NYC for other business.....I honestly could say I thought he was going to sing a surprise. Listen to OBJECTS - EP on iTunes... and buy it. I love his simplicity and the approach he's taking with less is more. I believe the seasons God has used him here and there are remarkable. One song that really brings me closer and closer to God is: Fire fall down. I pray that God will fill you and others reading this with the fire of the Holy Spirit, for He will teach and lead us through to victory.

Look guys, just because he doesn't sing in the albums doesn't mean that he left all of a sudden. I mean, just yesterday, Sunday night, I saw Marty Sampson lead worship at Hillsong. He also sang at Colour Conference 2013. So, if you're asking if he's back, he probably is.
i didnt kno Marty wasnt arnd ,.i thot he ws jus takin a break but if you no longer doin what God called you to do Marty ? You are perfectly being selfish,cause God gave you that annointing that gift,.and that talent just so you can drive his people into worship and all glory goes back to him alone,.circular music isnt giving glory to the almighty at all!! Think abt it ,the one who created you,.i'm not saying go back to Hillsong united but do what God has called you for!
